Each day at Penlago is designed around stillness.
There are no classes, no schedules to rush through, and no phones buzzing for attention. Time here moves differently — slowly, softly, and with purpose. Your body leads the rhythm, and we simply follow.
The day begins with the sound of wind in the trees and ends under a quiet sky filled with stars. Between those two moments, your body is healing, your mind is clearing, and your spirit is resting.
You wake with the sun, rested and light. There is no alarm clock, only the call of birds and the brightness of morning mist.
Our nurse visits to take your readings — pulse, blood pressure, glucose, weight and hydration — and to see how you’re feeling.
This quiet check-in becomes part of the ritual.
It reminds you that you are cared for, that every detail is being watched over.
You drink clean mineral water or a small glass of electrolytes if needed. You might stretch, walk slowly, or sit on the veranda overlooking the hills. The air is cool, and the stillness feels alive.
Breakfast is not food but rest.
You begin the day with nothing entering the body except breath and sunlight.
By midday the body is fully in fasting mode. Energy rises and falls like waves, and your only task is to stay present.
You may nap, journal, watch TV or read something simple. Some guests walk quietly along the garden path, others sit in silence for hours.
There is no pressure to do more. Your body is working harder than you think. Digestion is paused, but repair is in full motion — cells are clearing waste, energy is shifting inward.
If you feel lightheaded, the nurse checks in again, sometimes offering a brief conversation or reassurance. A gentle massage may be scheduled to help circulation and ease tension.
The hills grow warmer, the light golden.
This is the calmest part of the day. You might lie under a tree, watch the sky change color, or meditate quietly in your room.
You are reminded to drink slowly and steadily. Sometimes the mind becomes busy again — this is normal. We guide you through it, reminding you that fasting is not about control but about release.
As the sun lowers, you begin to feel your body’s rhythm slowing down again. The outside world fades; the inner one grows clearer.
In the evening the property grows silent. A warm herbal broth may be served if you are at the end of your fast or preparing for refeeding. Otherwise, it’s only water, candlelight, and quiet conversation if you choose.
Many guests find this the most peaceful moment of the day — when hunger has dissolved, and only stillness remains. Some write in their journals, read, stretch, watch tv, others simply breathe and let the darkness come.
You sleep early.
The rooms are simple and dark, the air cool and pure. Sleep comes deeply, naturally, without effort.
Each day at Penlago feels like a mirror of the last, but inside, something changes. The mind slows, the body softens, and your relationship with hunger and stillness begins to shift. There are no achievements here, only awareness.
When you leave, you will remember what a real day feels like... quiet, full of space, and free of everything unnecessary.
