At Penlago, there is nothing to buy, nothing to chase, and nothing to do except rest.
You arrive with only your body, and for seven days you give it silence, water, and time.
Our retreat sits in the hills of Jamaica — a few hours from North America but a world away from noise. The air is clean. The nights are cool. The only sounds are wind, birds, and your own heartbeat.
This is not a resort. It is a return.
When you stop eating, your body begins to repair. Within a day, your digestive system goes quiet, inflammation eases, and your mind clears. By day three, your body starts using its own reserves. Cells recycle old material. The immune system resets.
You rest deeply because the body has nothing else to do but heal.
Many people report:
At Penlago, fasting is not a challenge. It’s a surrender.
You learn that hunger comes in waves, that peace returns in silence, and that your body is wiser than you think.
Most of us live in constant stimulation, eating too often, thinking too much, surrounded by screens and sound. The body never has time to reset. The system is always busy processing, digesting, reacting. Fasting stops the noise inside.
A true fast is not about willpower. It’s about trust. You stop forcing energy into the system and let the body use what it already has. When digestion stops, the body turns inward to heal itself.
At Penlago, you are not distracted by luxury or entertainment. You sleep, you walk, you breathe. We check your vitals each day. You are safe, supported, and left alone to experience what stillness feels like.
Penlago is in the mountains of Jamaica — far enough to be quiet, close enough to be easy.
From the U.S. or Canada, flights to Kingston take only a few hours. From there, it’s a drive into the hills, where you’ll find three simple rooms, cool air, and total privacy.
You can arrive in the morning and be resting by sunset. The environment does half the work: no city, no screens, no pressure. Just nature and time.
If you prefer to stay home, Penlago also offers a remote fasting program — daily monitoring and support while you fast from your own home.
1. Is it safe to go without food for seven days?
Yes, under supervision. The body is built for fasting. We monitor your vital signs, weight, and hydration every day. You drink mineral water and rest. If you need to stop, you can.
2. What will I feel during the fast?
You’ll feel lighter, quieter, and sometimes tired. Hunger usually fades after the first day. You might sleep more. Around the third or fourth day, clarity comes — mental and physical.
3. How do I prepare before coming?
Two or three days before arrival, reduce heavy foods and caffeine. Eat lighter meals and drink more water. When you arrive, your body will already be easing into rest.
4. What happens when it ends?
We guide you through gentle refeeding — fresh coconut water, fruit, and vegetable broth. You learn how to come back to food slowly and respectfully. The goal isn’t to eat less forever. It’s to learn what your body really needs.
5. Who should not fast?
Pregnant women, anyone underweight, or anyone with serious medical conditions should not fast without medical clearance. We ask all guests to complete a short health form before acceptance.
At Penlago, the most powerful part of the week is what doesn’t happen. There is no menu, no schedule full of classes, no pressure to perform. You drink water, read, watch the light change, and sleep when you’re tired.
The first two days are physical. The rest are mental. By the end, most guests describe an unfamiliar peace — a sense that the mind has finally stopped chasing.
When you leave, you’ll feel calm, light, and clean inside. You will also understand that this stillness is always available — it just takes silence to find it again.
